.) What was your first Halloween costume you can remember?:My first costume was probably that of a witch. But my more memorable costumes throughout childhood were Princess Jasmine (my mom made my costome out of cheap blue satiny women's pajamas), a die (costume idea nabbed from the American Girls magazine, Samantha (from the American Girl dolls), the Grim Reaper, and Clark Gable.
.)What is your favorite aspect of Halloween (the costumes, decorations, parties...):Oh gosh. I just love everything. I've never actually been to (or held) a party, but it's been my goal since childhood. I used to take out books about Halloween history and recipes and decorating year-round. Sometimes I'd be the only one Trick o'Treating in my neighborhood when the weather was lousy. I love the Halloween specials on TV (143 Peanuts and History Channel). I'm obsessed with ghosts and folklore and history, and Halloween just seems to sum up so much of that for me.
.) If you could plan one special Halloween party for all of your friends, how would you do it?:I'd hold it at a historic haunted site (and since I live in Boston, there's plenty around here). We'd play all the traditional games and eat tons of popcorn balls and candy corn and "theme" food. And everyone would have to be in costume! Towards the end of the night I'd read aloud all my favorite ghost stories.
.) What's your favorite trick? Or your favorite treat?:No favorite tricks yet. But I love apple cider (warm or cold), candy corn, Indian corn, Rice Krispie treats topped with candy corn, pumpkin spice flavored ANYTHING, and of course generic cupcakes with orange and chocolate icing!
.) What is your fondest Halloween memory?:I go to school at Suffolk University in Boston and decided to go Trick o'Treating in the neighborhood surrounding my school last year, which is Beacon Hill. I took a friend with me and we had a great time! Teresa Heinz Kerry apparently does not find it cute that children old enough to vote are begging for candy at her house, but whatever. We got tons of loot, and many homes in the Back Bay area were open to visitors.
.) What reminds you the most of Halloween?:Pumpkins, leaves changing, black cats...
.) Post a picture, send a recipe, a poem, anything you'd like.
