1.) What was your first Halloween costume you can remember?: I was a black cat...in fact I was a cat for the first several years of my life. In fact, I've often been a black cat. Maybe I was a cat in a previous life, lol.
2.)What is your favorite aspect of Halloween (the costumes, decorations, parties...): I love, love, love the decorations; plus my favorite season of the year is autumn and my favorite month is October, so there's a lot for me to love.
3.) If you could plan one special Halloween party for all of your friends, how would you do it?: I have had Halloween parties in the loft of my barn, but haven't done that in years. How I would plan a good party (or what I would consider a good party) now is to have a big bonfire with lots of Halloween themed food and tons of decorations. I'd have a pumpkin carving session early in the party. Then, I'd have a costume contest with a nice prize given to the best costume. Then a scavenger hunt on my property...people would have to use the pumpkins they carved earlier in the evening for light while participating in the contest. I'd hide things in various places...out in the pasture, deep in the woods *it would be spooky at night bwahaha*, in the outbuildings...and have a series of clues for people to follow to find the prize. A session of spooky story telling or reading from a scary story around the fire would be good to do too I think.
4.) What's your favorite trick? Or your favorite treat?: Once many years ago, a friend of mine let her daughter (about 11 years old) have a Halloween party in the basement of their house. Before the party started, I hid in the basement in full vampire costume. I had a boom box with me and in the tape deck I had a tape with Bach's Toccata and Fugue on it. When all the kids had arrived at the party, at a prearranged signal (yes, I planned this with my friends) I hit the switch (the volume was cranked) and leapt out of hiding with that spooky organ music blaring. Scared the hell out of the kids, lol. I do love carmel apples with chocolate drizzled over them and nuts stuck in the carmel and chocolate. *drool*
5.) What is your fondest Halloween memory?: Sitting around a campfire with some friends, talking about various odd experiences and then later at night, all of us going to some local cemeteries with my digital camera and snapping some pics. Yep, I have been known to wander around in cemeteries at night. ;)
6.) What reminds you the most of Halloween?: Carved pumpkins, shortening days, colored leaves, frost, lol, lots of things.
7.) Post a picture, send a recipe, a poem, anything you'd like. Ok, three haiku for Halloween:
Thick, rich chocolate
Caramel apples so sweet
Such tasty treasures
The day fades away
Fantastic forms creep about
Witches, ghosts and cats
Small ones in bed now
Lone jack-o-lanterns stand guard
Watching the dark night
