3.) If you could plan one special Halloween party for all of your friends, how would you do it?
An old fashioned type Halloween party like they had in days gone by.

1.) What was your first Halloween costume you can remember?
- My mom dressed up as the Grim Reaper and she dressed me up as a little Indian. I had a skirt with frills and rouge war paint. :) I think I was about 3 or 4 yrs old.

2.) What is your favorite aspect of Halloween?
- The Zombie movie marathons, of course! That and all the spooky house decorations that you can get real cheap at the dollar stores.

3.) If you could plan one special Halloween party for all of your friends, how would you do it?
- Rent one of those fancy pants mansions, deck that place all out with black tulle and pumpkins and have a few areas for the traditional Halloween games as well as large amounts of alcohol and candy..etc etc.

4.) What's your favorite trick? Or your favorite treat?
- Not a big trick person. I don't like to be full on freaked out.. but a nice comfortable spooky buzz is good. lol My favorite treat? Let's see... Pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie are two things i'll trample people for.

5.) What is your fondest Halloween memory?
- a good portion of my halloweens have turned out rather lame. I guess in simple ways, it would be the halloween that I was a dead cheerleader and my friend eliott was wolverine and we drank and giggled endlessly through the night while being randomly flashed by passersby.

6.) What reminds you the most of Halloween?
- oranges and reds and purples and stripey things and cobwebs and too much black eyeliner and tea-stained lace and pumpkins.

7.) Post a picture, send a recipe, a poem, anything you'd like.

Favorite Haunts [31 Jan 2006|09:47am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

One of my Halloween traditions is spending the holiday in a different city each year. I am always looking for a new place to spend Halloween, so I thought I would ask if anyone had any favorite places to go. I began this tradition in 1998, so I have plenty of places left to see! This year I am going to Manhattan.

Oh, and if anyone is going to be in Louisville, KY at Halloween this year, I urge you to check out the Waverly Hills TB Hospital. The lines are long and the main haunted house is only about a 6 out of 10, but there is a second haunted house that goes through the morgue under the hospital. One of the creepiest places I have ever been! While waiting in line, you can watch a documentary about the hospital, look at real photos from patients who lived and died there when the hospital was open, and learn about the 'death tunnel'.

Another of my favorite spots is Knotsberry Farm in Los Angeles. They hire hundreds (I believe it was exactly 1000) workers for Halloween to roam the park in costume, scaring guests. They had five or six haunted houses with different themes in each, and of course the rides and food that the park is famous for. The only downside was that guests are not allowed to wear costumes (presumeably so that they cannot sneak into the employees only areas). Bonus- Disneyland is not far away, so you can see both parks in one day. Knots is the better at Halloween, though.

Intro Post [31 Jan 2006|03:43pm]
1.) What was your first Halloween costume you can remember?
~The first one I have pictures of was from when I was about 2, and I was a bug. I'll have to scan a picture eventually.

2.) What is your favorite aspect of Halloween?
~Of the Halloweeny stuff, probably the crisp air, the fact that more people tend to act like kids (in a good way for a change), the parties, the fact that I don't get as many strange looks for wearing costumes. =) And I always love a good (mostly clean) party. From a spiritual perspective, I'm Wiccan, so it's a very sacred time of year for me faith-wise.

3.) If you could plan one special Halloween party for all of your friends, how would you do it?
~I'd host it in a big house, preferably one with a mysterious past, there would be lots of fun music and dancing, great food (themed, of course), tons of cool decorations, and costumes would be mandatory. I'd also like to round out the evening with some spooky things like scary stories, spooky movies (not slasher stuff, but creepy stuff), some tarot and tea leaf readings, and maybe some seance type things after midnight.

4.) What's your favorite trick? Or your favorite treat?
~Not into the tricks, I'm focused on the treats. Anything pumpkiny is at the top of my list. A friend of mine makes incredible Pumpkin Flan (if I can find the recipe I'll post it), and I love when Starbucks brings out the Pumpkin Spice flavoring. =) Spiced Cider is fantastic, I prefer the R.W. Knudsen's Cider and Spice. It's all natural ingredients, and tastes great warm or iced (which is handy when you live in southern California and it's over 80 degrees in the autumn).

5.) What is your fondest Halloween memory?
~Hmmm, I don't know if I have a specific one, but '05 was pretty great. My fiance' and I went to a really fun party. Every year this couple hosts a theme party, and this year the hubby (a comic geek) got his way. The party was Supervillain themed. We played games like Jeopardy, which the hubby went through the trouble of doing from scratch. All the questions and everything. There was a ton of food, and great company.

6.) What reminds you the most of Halloween?
~Orange and black, pumpkins, crisp air, the first few nights of the year when you can smell that people have a fire in the fireplace (not to be confused with early summer when you can smell their BBQs), fun costumes and stage makeup.

7.) Post a picture, send a recipe, a poem, anything you'd like.

Here's a picture of us last Halloween. I was Screaming Mimi, he was her consort, Angar the Screamer. (Yes, very obscure comic book villains, but we didn't want to be dressed the same as anyone else.) (Clickity Click)Collapse )

For the comparison record, this is what we nomally look like.Collapse )
